Marble Sort Level 178 Walkthrough & Solution

Level 178 Board Overview: The Mystery ’?’ Curtain

Marble Sort level 178 opening board — The Mystery '?' Curtain

Level 178 opens with the top of the tray curtained off: the first two or three slots of every column are gray mystery tiles marked with a ’?’, and below them a band of wooden crates seals the middle of the board. You cannot see what is waiting behind either row until you start pulling tiles off the sides, and the mystery tiles themselves have to be cycled through the Conveyor Belt before they reveal their real colors.

The colors you can actually use at the start are dark green, light green, purple, and dark red/maroon, with a light pink and a red tile tucked into the mix. The opening receiver Boxes line up for the greens, the maroon, and the purple; the front of the queue feeds in light pink, dark red, light blue, and blue tiles. In the center of the board a cluster of orange tiles is still settling into the tray, and a full row of dark blue tiles sits at the bottom of the tray waiting for boxes that do not exist yet.

That mismatch is the whole level: more colors are on the board than there are Boxes to catch them. The greens, purple, and maroon are meant to be fed immediately; everything else is bait until the Boxes cycle.

The Trap in Marble Sort Level 178

The Level 178 board is rigged to make you open the mystery ’?’ curtain before you know what the boxes want. Here is the layout:

  • Top of every column: gray ’?’ mystery tiles stacked two or three deep. They look like easy taps, but each one is a color you cannot verify until the Boxes ask for it.
  • Middle of the board: a wooden-crate band that blocks the center columns and hides whatever sits behind it, forcing you to play the rim of the tray.
  • Far-left and far-right stacks: dark green and light green tiles that do have early homes in the green Boxes.
  • The settled orange cluster: orange tiles dropping into the center of the tray with no Orange Box anywhere in the opening row of receivers.
  • The bottom row of the tray: dark blue tiles parked across the tray bottom with no Blue Box up yet.
  • The queue: light pink, dark red, light blue, blue, and more mystery tiles waiting on the belt. The light pink and the mystery tiles have nowhere to go at the opening.

The board wants you to pull every visible tile off the tray immediately. Do that and the belt fills with colors that block the greens, maroon, and purple that actually win the opening. Instead, feed only the colors with live Boxes and let the rest sit.

Marble Sort Level 178 Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Patience wins this one. Follow the release order.

Opening: feed the live boxes only

Marble Sort level 178 mid-solve board

  1. Start with the dark green tiles on the left edge of the tray and feed them into the green Boxes on the left side.
  2. Clear the light green tiles on the right edge into the green receivers on the right.
  3. Move to the dark red/maroon tile in the middle of the colored row and feed it into the maroon Box.
  4. Tap the purple tile in the center columns - the purple Box has room, and opening those columns gives you space to work around the crate band.
  5. Keep feeding green, maroon, and purple as more of them slide down. These three are the only colors with live Boxes in the opening row.
  6. Do not touch the pink, the red, the oranges settling in the center, or any blue or light blue yet. None of them have a Box.
  7. Let the mystery ’?’ tiles and the crates stay put until the Boxes in front of them cycle to colors you can actually place.

Midgame: the crates release the colors

Once the early green, maroon, and purple Boxes clear, the front row shifts and finally asks for the colors the board was hoarding: orange, dark blue, purple, and red. The crate band in the middle is gone, and the tray opens up.

  1. Tap the orange tiles that were settling in the center straight into the fresh Orange Boxes.
  2. Drop the red and dark red/maroon tiles from the tray and the queue into the red receivers.
  3. Prioritize the purple tiles - more purple comes down the middle of the tray and clearing it frees up the widest space on the belt.
  4. Start cycling the dark blue tiles from the bottom row of the tray once the dark blue Box appears in front.
  5. The light pink and the leftover mystery tiles can now come off the belt, one at a time, whenever their revealed colors match a front-row Box.

Cleanup: the final blue and light blue boxes

With the crates gone and most colors banked, the board empties fast.

  1. Watch the queue closely in the last stretch - light blue and dark blue tiles dominate the belt, and the final Boxes on both sides are waiting for them.
  2. Feed the dark blue tiles into the dark blue receivers, top to bottom, without holding any on the belt.
  3. Play only to the active front row from here. The last light blues pull the remaining mystery tiles down and finish the level.

Level 178 Tips Recap

  • The opening is a trap: only Green, Purple, and Maroon have live Boxes, so feed them and ignore everything else.
  • The mystery ’?’ tiles and the crate band are a curtain, not a puzzle - they clear out on their own once the front Boxes cycle.
  • Orange, Pink, Blue, and Light Blue are bait at the start. Their Boxes arrive midgame, not before.
  • In the endgame the queue is full of Blue and Light Blue - feed them in order as their receivers appear.
